This tour is an all day Meteora experience. Joining this tour you will discover the most important spots in Meteora by visiting three of the oldest monasteries of the region, take amazing photos of their stunning views, walk through narrow old paths and enjoy your lunch at Kastraki posing a nice back-round of the high cliffs.
1 hr - Great Meteoron or Megalo Meteoron is the biggest and oldest monastery of all in Meteora. The monastery offers amazing views to the surrounding landscape. During your visit you have the chance to visit the museum of the monastery, where historical codices and religious icons of high value are on display. Moreover, take time to gaze at the artistic details of some of the best samples of post-Byzantine art of Greece, found inside the main church of the monastery.
1 hr - The Holy Monastery of Varlaam is the second biggest monastery of Meteora. Located very close to Great Meteoro Monastery, it was founded in the mid 14th century by a monk named Varlaam. The chapel was finally decorated in 1548. The beautiful frescos in the monastery’s chapel of All Saints belong to the famous hagiographer of the 16th century Franco Catalano. The monastery has preserved the tower with the old pully system where you can see the net, used by the first monks to bring up people and provisions. The visitors can also see a very large 16th-century oak barrel used for water storage over the previous centuries. The monastery of Varlaam has opened recently a brand new museum, where visitors can admire the excellence of religious painted icons – mostly contemporary to the Renaissance period – and precious holy vestments of the priests from the Byzantine period.
1 hr - The Holy Monastery of Roussanou, located at Meteora was first established in the 14th century. It received the name probably from the first hermit-monk who settled on the rock during that period. Visit Roussanou for a different view of the surrounding cliffs and the adjacent Meteora Monasteries. Follow the pathway from this monastery to the upper main road and discover an off-the-road panoramic view point spot that allows you to walk on bear rocks! Don’t miss out on this photo opportunity!
1 hr - Enjoy a traditional Greek lunch in Kastraki, near the city of Kalampaka, before heading back to Thessaloniki.

An absolutely amazing tour! We were a group of 4 traveling from Thessaloniki. Mr John was a great driver and made us feel very comfortable the entire trip. John our tour guide was very friendly and informative. It was a nice paced day with an enjoyable lunch. Meteora is a beautiful place that should not be missed.
Our mixed group which included my 2 teenagers, husband and my 80 year old mother had an amazing day seeing the monasteries of Meteora and learning about their history. Our hosts, both coincidentally named Ioannis, were so patient and accommodating, making sure that my mother had plenty of time to make it to the top of the monasteries and making the tour interesting for our teenagers. It was so nice to have time to see everything and not feel rushed. We ended the day with a traditional and delightful Greek lunch. All in all it was a special day. I would highly recommend this tour especially if you have a group with mixed mobility needs! It was one the best experiences we had during our visit to Thessaloniki!
Absolutely marvellous day tour from Thessaloniki for a truly awesome meteora experience. The rock formations and monasteries are beautiful and breathtaking. I don't think there's many other places on Earth quite like this! Mr Jannis Papas was an excellent guide, I really appreciated how much local flavour and expertise he was able to bring to the tour from his own experiences growing up in the area--he’s very friendly, and definitely not at all pure dry history. On top of that we had the best driver ever also named Yannis who made our trip fantastic with his expertise and professionalism! Thank you for everything guys and we will definitely see you again soon!
