Amazing experience. Really good organisation - we had nothing to worry about. The train trip was also exciting, a chance to see the non-tourist Greece from the comfort of a train seat (with A/C on). If you get Dimitris as your guide - be prepared for an awesome day full of knowledge and giggles. Highly recommend!
We absolutely loved this tour! On our own, we caught the train at the Thessaloniki Railway Station. All tickets and instructions were sent to us the day before so we had plenty of time to prepare for our trip. Train times were given on the tickets. Once in the town of Kalabaka, there was someone waiting for us. Our guide continued to impress us with her knowledge of the past and present of these monasteries. There was plenty of time to see everything we wanted to see. We went inside 3 of the monasteries, which was absolutely incredible, and stop at the other 3 for pictures. Plus we visited a rocky outcropping for a truly breathtaking experience. Then stopped for a bite to eat at the local village before heading back to the train. Well worth the money. I would definitely recommend.
The tour guide - excellent and entertaining - and also the bus driver. Of course also the unique scenic wonders but these are not the achievement of the tour organizers. The visited monasteries, especially the nunnery. Bad: The trip I booked was supposed to start about one hour earlier and end about 2 hours earlier. This strong deviation was very disappointing.
Very interesting tour. Magnificent views. Well organized. The guide Dimitrius was very knowledgeable, and also fun to be with. The driver Tilay (?) was nice and it felt very safe on the winding roads.
We had booked thru GETYOURGUIDE which uses Meteora. The bus was at the raiway station and soon we were on our way, The guide and driver were outstanding. All went well except for a small hitch! Our train tickets arrived the day AFTER the tour which caused us embarressment on the train. Fortunately GetYourGuide sent the train tickets after we wrote and told them we had not received the tickets, which saved us buying return tickets on the train. I would suggest using GetYourGuide to book the tour with Meteora Thrones.
