What To Expect

Loutra Pozar
The distance is 110km and lasts approximately 1½ hours. One explanation regarding the meaning of the name “Pozar” is “after the charcoal” while another one is “under the fire”, which forms an evidence that in the past the village was located in a different place that was burnt or set on fire and the villagers gave the name “Pozar” to their new village.

We reach the enchanting Pozar hot springs, the spa into nature. The healing water infiltrates the ground and after going quite deep is heated up and goes back to the surface enriched with minerals and trace elements.Admire the beautiful gorge located in the majestic mountain where the river “Toplitsa” (in slavic language is defined as “the hot river”) flows through it forming small cascades and shallow shores. Nowadays is mostly known as the river of Saint Nicolas.

Edessa Waterfalls
The name Edessa means “a tower into the water” because of the intense presence of the liquid element in the city since the antiquity. We have free time to admire the impetuous waterfalls and capture the enchanting scenery; where the park of the cascades meets the edge of the rock, also known as the “eyebrow” of the city, is located, according to the famous greek author Menelaos Lountemis, “the step where God steps on to go up the sky”. The water comes from the springs of the mountain Kaimaktsalan (Voras) supplied constantly by the snowmelt of the mountain.

We may follow our trip attendant-archaeologist for a walking tour to the traditional district of Varosi and visit the Water Museum or Sesame Mill of Flavors for an unforgettable experience or enjoy a nice meal in one of the traditional restaurants of the area.

We depart to Thessaloniki at around 15:00p.m and we are back approximately after 1½ hours (16:30pm), making the same stops where we started from.

Pozar Springs and Edessa Waterfalls

This experience was amazing, Nikko was an awesome tour he has a encyclopedic knowledge of ancient history of this area of Macedonia, the springs were more warm than hot but very comfortable on a light rainy winter day. Edessa with its beautiful waterfall park an old town we’re amazing as well I definitely recommend this trip.
Pozar...wow!

Husband booked this adventure for us and I LOVED IT - shout out to our tour guide, MARGARITA!!!

Tour bus was prompt at 8:00am arrival ~ Margarita was great - friendly, kind, informative - everything you want in a tour guide

When we arrived at the thermal baths, Margarita gave us a quick overview of where to purchase towels, store belongings and get changed. There were 3 thermal baths ~ one for hot water, one for cold water and a third "bath" which is essentially a swimming pool

Everything was great and super fun - we were able to get a couple photos too! just note this is very "instagrammable" but there will be plenty of people in our photos haha you have been warned! Wishing we could've stayed longer but we were making our trip to Edessa

Lovely views and great shots with many of the waterfalls! We wanted to spend a lot of time exploring so didn't get to try any of the restaurants in the plaza - a lot of the stalls within the plaza strip were for souvenir items and fast foods (pizza, hot dogs, ice cream)

HUGE thank-you to Margarita for not leaving us behind, haha! This area is a little tricky because there was no bus loading zone so Margarita had come back to the plaza strip and found us, talk about 5/5 customer service!!
Beautiful location, worth the trip

Great experience, but difficult to negotiate signs and procedures for buying tickets. Just be patient and you’ll love it. Bring towels and bathrobes if hotel provides. Kallinikos Guesthouse on main road 3 km away is amazing.
Very interesting and fun

Excellent host who spoke v good English and was very knowledgable. It is a bit of a tourist trap and I'm not sure how healthy it was, bathing with all those starngers, but it's a good day trip
Lovely experience with a lovely guide

Lovely experience with a lovely guide. The starting point is Thessalonikki and a gentle driver drove us up to the termal bath of Pozar and the waterfalls of Edessa. Heleni is well educated and very keen on byzantine history, it was a pleasure travel with Ammon Express and both Pozar and Edessa are worth to be visited
